The Fire Service is at a critical time. Mental health is being discussed more openly than it ever has been, and firefighters have more mental health resources available than ever before. Yet suicide is higher than it’s ever been. Firefighters are 4 times more likely to commit suicide than die in on-the-job-accidents, and suicide is up 500% since 2000. Season Chiefs discuss what the future of mental health in the fire service should look like, and what leadership is needed to deliver that. This panel is hosted by Fire Captain Tim Houweling, co-founder of The S.I.R.E.N. Project.
