Going Forward - Challenging Misconceptions, Introducing Nuance, and Changing Public Opinion

Abel Gustafson, Matt Goldberg

Watch for hot-off-the-press public opinion research on Americans’ beliefs, understanding, and policy support around psychedelics. The data will show how large portions of the public overestimate their risks, believe in false narratives, cling to negative stereotypes, and are largely unaware of the strong evidence of their benefits. Meanwhile, promising new evidence also shows that there are large segments of the public that support policy reform to allow certain types of uses of psychedelics. This presentation will reflect on the effectiveness of different communication strategies to present a path forward, explain how to choose the right audiences to engage with on this issue, and provide insight on which US states might show the best opportunities for policy change.
