Psychedelics and Societies in Crisis

Zina Besirevic, Olga Chernoloz, Amjad Alkash

Societies grappling with ongoing crisis and pervasive trauma present unique and urgent challenges for mental health intervention. This session will explore the critical question of whether psychedelic-assisted therapy can be effective when the ideal “set and setting” is severely compromised by active conflict or instability. Drawing on insights from practitioners and researchers working in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, and Bosnia, the panel will share firsthand experiences and emerging data on adapting psychedelic interventions in environments of persistent crisis.
