Integrating the State-Regulated Model into Preventive and Wellness Care

Will Lucas, Aryan Sarparast, Elliot Marseille, DrPH, MPP, Mary Rondeau

The state-legalized model for psilocybin services presents a transformative opportunity to expand access to psychedelic care—centering wellness, prevention, and personal growth without requiring a clinical diagnosis. Much like acupuncture or chiropractic care, which are increasingly used to support overall wellness and mitigate chronic stress and pain before they escalate into more serious conditions, psilocybin services under this model emphasize healing, resilience, and proactive mental health.Oregon’s thriving model shows that this approach can be safe, cost-effective, and increasingly accessible. Barriers to entry are being lowered, and legislative progress is actively addressing systemic challenges such as dual licensure and protections for healthcare professionals. Colorado, learning from Oregon’s experience, is building a robust and integrated delivery system from the outset. This panel features Dr. Aryan Sarparast, Oregon Psilocybin Advisory Board member and founder of the PEACE Clinic at OHSU, offering insurance-covered safety assessments and harm reduction services for psychedelic experiences; Dr. Elliot Marseille, a leading voice in the economics of psychedelic therapies; and Dr. Mary Rondeau, whose clinic, The Wholeness Center, exemplifies the integration of primary, psychiatric, and psychedelic care under one roof. Moderator Will Lucas, a clinical researcher and advocate for the holistic integration of psychedelics into preventive and public health, will guide a forward-thinking discussion on the infrastructure, collaboration, and innovation needed to ensure the safety, sustainability, and equitable scaling of these emerging care models.
