The Library is Open: A Conversation about Queer-Affirming Psychedelic Therapy

Terence Ching, Ph.D., Jessalyn Maguire, Justin Natoli, Shveta Mittal, PhD, Syre Saniyah, T Veiga, Jae Sevelius, Alan Davis

Psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) offers profound healing potential for LGBTQ2SIA+ communities, yet research, training, and access remain largely centered on white, cisgender, and heterosexual participants. This panel will explore how psychedelics can support queer and trans individuals in healing from systemic trauma, eating disorders, and mental health challenges, while also reclaiming authentic identity and connection. Panelists will discuss the role of psychedelics in addressing “normative trauma”—the internalized harm of societal constructs that dictate how we should exist. They will examine Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy’s impact on LGBTQ+ mental health, the disproportionate prevalence of eating disorders among queer individuals, and the urgent need for trans-inclusive research, training, and therapeutic frameworks in PAT.Panelists will also offer insights into best practices for culturally competent care, the importance of inclusive set and setting, and strategies for ensuring greater access to PAT for historically marginalized communities.
